The first building of Community Presbyterian Church (now Briggs Hall) was dedicated on Easter Sunday, March 28, 1948 on property donated by David Cosby along A1A in Deerfield Beach. The church ran as a mission church holding services only during the winter months with Dr. Francis Fox as pastor.

Dr Arland Briggs became the first full time minister in November of 1952. During his 28 ½ years as pastor the church expanded to fill two city blocks between SE 4th ST and SE 6th ST. The sanctuary was dedicated
May 19, 1963.

Norman Dalton, our third pastor and second long term pastor, retired April 1, 2008 after 21 years of service. During Pastor Dalton’s last few years the church underwent major refurbishment of the organ and

sanctuary, including a new sound system. We replaced the roof of the sanctuary following Wilma and plan to replace the roof of the education buildings this summer.

Our Sunday morning worship starts at 8:30 with an informal worship celebration in Fox Chapel followed at 9:30 with adult education in the education building. We also have a traditional worship service at 10:30 in the sanctuary.

A Brazilian Presbyterian Church shares our buildings. They have an adult education program at 10:30 in Briggs Hall and a worship service at 7:30 in the evening in the sanctuary. The service is in Portuguese with English translation.

We have an active missions committee which disburses funds given by the congregation to local, national, and international programs. The evangelism committee hosts a living nativity in December and a winter resident reception in March.  In addition to the hospitality after church services the membership committee sponsors day trips once a month during the season for our members to explore south Florida. The Prime Timers, our senior program, gather on Wednesdays during the season for mediation, exercise, an educational activity,
a movie, and of course lunch.

Our congregation is a mix of year round residents, winter residents, and vacationers.  Our numbers swell during the season but we remain a friendly dedicated group of servants to our Lord year round.

We are actively seeking an interim pastor to serve until we call a new pastor.
