During the meeting of the Presbytery of Tropical Florida at Trinity Church, Key West, we were:
DELIGHTED: By the warmth of our welcome by the pastor (Dr. Gwen Magby) and members of Trinity Church.
IMPRESSED: By the new docket format utilizing the theme of worship throughout the entire agenda.
INFORMED: By the items of the “Consent Agenda” including no less than fifteen separate items which were dealt with diligence, good humor and dispatch.
ENCOURAGED: By the commissioning of the following delegates to the 218th General Assembly in San Jose, Ca.: Elder Dolores Baker, Mr. Kadeem Lovell-Martin, Dr. William Stepp, Rev. Mary Wright, Elder Eric Young and Staff: Dr. Arlene Gordon and Dr. Peter Wendell.
INSPIRED: By the preaching of Rev. Robert Burkins of the Elmwood United Presbyterian Church(es) in East Orange, New Jersey. He spoke on the subject: “What Do You Think” and took as his Scripture theme the text from Ezekiel concerning the dry bones.
ENERGIZED: By reports from the Committees on Ministry, Preparation, New Church Development, Disaster Relief and the Hunger Action Enabler.
SATISFIED AND SATIATED: By a magnificent repast provided by the members of Trinity Church. The sheer variety and volume of the dishes presented was amazing, remarkable and outstanding!
REFRESHED: By a free evening of frivolity in Key West, followed by a restful night at the Doubletree.
ANIMATED: By our morning worship which featured Mrs. Auwina Weed, Trinity’s musician accompanying the hymn “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee” by blowing on a conch shell! As well as impressive soloists:
Joan Leggett, Michele Lopez and Edwin Knowles.
ENERGIZED: By the introduction of our distinguished visitors from the Presbytery of the Yucatan in Mexico, and their power point presentation of the work in which they are engaged, as well as the reports from the Executive Presbyter, the representative from the Presbyterian Foundation, and the Mission Funding, Human Resources and Discernment Committees.
